Course Content
Course content must be relevant to the practice of
engineering and may include technical, ethical, or
managerial content.
Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) should "maintain,
improve, or expand skills and knowledge obtain prior to
initial licensure or develop new and relevant skills and
knowledge."
Accepted activities include (a) completing or auditing college or university courses,
(b) completing courses awarding CEU credits, (c) attending
seminars, and authoring, teaching, or presenting courses, (d)
publishing papers, articles, or books or (e)
receiving a U.S. patent.
Course Approval
The Board does not pre-approve specific courses. Each engineer must determine
whether an activity meets the Board's requirements.
Sponsor Approval
The Board does not pre-approve course sponsors.
Online Courses
Online courses are accepted.
There is no limit on the number of hours that can be earned through online continuing
education. However, the board does not encourage meeting PDH requirements through
distance learning. To be accepted, the licensee must demonstrate high quality
education from the course, if requested, and the course must require the participant to
show evidence of achievement and completion and/or a final graded test.

A maximum of 15 PDH based on an annual or biennial period may be
carried forward into the next renewal period and cannot be carried
forward for more than one period.

The responsibility of maintaining records
to be used to support credits claimed is the sole responsibility of the licensee.
The records must be maintained for a period of four years
and copies must be furnished, if requested, to the Board
for audit verification purposes. These records should
not be furnished with the renewal application.

Exemption from the PDH requirements include new licensees,
retired or inactive status, military service, or working overseas. Please
refer to the state board's website for specific requirements and time periods allowed.
