Course Content
The course must have a "clear purpose and
objective which will maintain, improve, or expand the skills and knowledge
relevant to the licensee's field of practice". There are limitations
on the number of hours allowed in each type of course area for Group 1
activities, which are intended to maintain, improve, or expand skills and
knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure.
Accepted activities include (a) completing college or university courses,
(b) completing courses awarding CEU credits, (c) attending
seminars, classes, or technical presentations, (d) teaching courses, seminars, or technical
presentations, (e)
publishing papers, articles, or books, (f)
receiving a U.S. patent, or (g) active participation in
technical committees of professional engineering
organizations. See board website for more specific information.
Course Approval
The Board does not pre-approve specific courses. Each engineer must determine whether an activity
meets the Board's requirements.
Sponsor Approval
The Board does not pre-approve course sponsors.
Online Courses
Online courses are accepted.
A maximum of 6 PDH may be earned each renewal
period for online continuing education courses.
Online courses are considered "independent
study" by the Board and fall under the category of Group 2 activities, which
include postgraduate level engineering science or design, new technology,
environmental regulation and courses in management of engineering.

December 31 even-numbered years or odd-numbered years depending on the
date of initial licensure.
Certificates of licensure that were initially issued in even–numbered
years expire in odd–numbered years and certificates that were initially
issued in odd–numbered years expire in even–numbered years.

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward
into the next renewal period.
|
The responsibility of maintaining records
to be used to support credits claimed is the sole responsibility of the licensee.
The records must be maintained for a period of three years.
Continuing education reported on the renewal form is subject
to compliance review.

Exemption from the PDH requirements include military service, working overseas, and
licensed in and residing in another state have continuing education requirements that
meet all board requirements. Please refer to state board website for specific
information.
Continuing education requirements may grant waivers for cases of hardship or other
extenuating circumstance for up to one year. Request for waiver must be submitted
in writing.
