Course Content
Courses shall have "subject matter which is technical in nature or addresses business management
practices, professional ethics, quality assurance, codes or other similar topics which facilitate the
registrant's professional development as a professional engineer or professional land surveyor,
and/or serves to safeguard life, health, property and promote the public welfare".
For all engineers, at least 1 PDH of the 30 PDH required must be earned in Professional Ethics.
For engineers who design buildings and/or building systems, a minimum of 8 PDH shall be earned in
Life Safety Code, Building Codes and/or Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines.
Accepted activities include (a) completing college or university courses,
(b) completing courses awarding CEU credits, (c) attending
seminars or in-house programs, (d) authoring, teaching, or presenting courses, presentations, or seminars, (e)
publishing papers, articles, or books, (f) receiving a U.S.
patent, or (g) membership in professional or
technical societies.
Course Approval
The Board does not pre-approve specific courses.
Sponsor Approval
The Board does pre-approve course sponsors. Engineers
are not required to earn hours from an approved sponsor.
However, courses
provided by an approved sponsor are assured to be accepted by the Board.

March 31 and September 30 based on the year of initial licensure

A maximum of 15 PDH may be carried forward
into the next renewal period.
The number of PDH carried over in the particular required category
may not exceed the minimum PDH required in that particular category;
therefore, the maximum allowed are 1 PDH for ethics, 8 PDHs for life safety code,
and 4 PDHs for minimum standards. Please be aware that PDH
credits above these limits can still be carried forward and applied
to the general engineering category.

The responsibility of maintaining records
to be used to support credits claimed is the sole responsibility of the licensee.
The records must be maintained for three consecutive renewal periods
(six years). Copies must be furnished to the Board only if requested
for audit verification purposes.

Exemption from the PDH requirements include new licensees at the first renewal only,
inactive or retired status, active military duty, or disability, illness, or other
extenuating circumstance. Please refer to the state board's website for
more specific
information.
